Bernard Becker Medical Library at Washington University School of Medicine is here to help with your educational and research needs.
Here are some of the basic resources and services to know about:
- Find assistance with literature searches, using databases and other information needs is available via askbecker@wustl.edu or at the Information Services Desk.
- Search for print and electronic books and journals in our catalog.
- Get off-campus access to library resources by logging in with your WUSTL Key.
- Access popular medical apps like UpToDate, Read by QxMD and Unbound Medicine at no charge.
- Browse subject guides with resources for specific topics like global health, tools for authors, systematic reviews and COVID-19.
- Register for a trainings and workshops with library staff and learn how to better utilize databases for literature searches, use Endnote for citation management, or use REDCap surveys for research projects.
The library building has an array of study spaces and amenities for students, residents, faculty and staff:
- Find an open study space on the lower level, first, second, third, or seventh floors. The fourth floor is set aside for quiet study.
- Reserve group study spaces here.
- Computers, printers and photocopy machines are available on the first floor.
- Special “Research Pod” computers with specialized software, including SPSS, Adobe Creative Cloud, MATLAB and Endnote are located on the first floor.
The library strives to support researchers and others working on manuscripts for publication in a variety of ways, including:
- Author analytics and support: Assistance with NIH-grant compliance, selecting the best journal for your manuscript and publication metrics information.
- Research Profiles (profiles.wustl.edu): A knowledge base for exploring the expertise, research interests and publications of the faculty, departments and centers of WashU – and a great way to find potential collaborators or mentors for your research projects!
- Research computing: Free entry-level trainings on a variety of research computing topics including Computing 101, MATLAB, Python and R.
- Data Management and Sharing: Becker Library has partnered with the Institute for Informatics to provide educational offerings and support services for data management and sharing to the Washington University Medical Center community, including REDCap and Data Management Plan Tool (DMPTool) workshops.
- Software licensing: Assistance with licensing for specialized programs like JMP Genomics, Partek Flow and PyMOL.
And finally, Becker Library has curated collections as well as truly unique holdings worth checking out:
- Archives and Rare Books Division: Learn about the history of medicine and our own medical school through Becker’s collections of classic medical texts and artifacts. You can even hold an actual Nobel Prize medal!
- Feuerstein Health and Wellness Information Center: Check out a book from our rotating collection of health and wellness resources. The collection includes everything from exercise and nutrition books, to health equity and anti-racism resources.
- Identities, Experiences and Perspectives Collection: Coming soon! A medical student-curated collection of books that detail the lived experiences of diverse people in our community
