MDClone is the new campus resource from the Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics’ (I²DB) Center for Population Health Informatics. MDClone is a free, secure, self-service platform for building queries and downloading computationally derived (“synthetic”) electronic medical record data from the I²DB Research Data Core (RDC).
The WashU instance of MDClone, recently upgraded to version 6, offers a more intuitive and compact user interface than previous versions. Specific improvements include:
- An improved search engine allows general or specific search terms such as “knee replacement” or “arthroplasty total knee – unicompartmental,” respectively:

- Query navigation bar guides users through a five-step process to generate synthetic data without switching between pages:

- New workflow designed so query building steps mimic writing a clinical question as a sentence:
