Becker Library to expand data management and sharing services

Starting with the Jan. 25, 2023, grant cycle, all NIH grant submissions will be required to include a two-page data management and sharing plan. The plan outlines how the investigator will store, protect, and ultimately share research data generated from NIH funds.

In response to this new NIH requirement, as well as growing data management and sharing requirements from other funders and publishers, Becker Library is expanding its data management and sharing services by hiring an additional senior support scientist. Members of the university community are encouraged to apply or forward this posting to qualified candidates.

Becker Library began offering data management and sharing services in the spring of 2019 in collaboration with the Institute for Informatics, and these services have continued to grow and expand since that time. Services provided to date include data management and sharing educational sessions, consultation services assisting individual investigators with sharing their data, a suite of REDCap workshops and individual help sessions, introductory MDClone synthetic data training offerings, and more. As these services continue to expand, the library will provide additional support around writing and implementing data management plans as well as sharing research data.

Now under the Office of Health Information and Data Science umbrella, Becker continues to work closely with the Institute for Informatics, as well as with the Division of Biostatistics and the Office of the Chief Research Information Officer. The library’s data management and sharing services also continue to complement the data services provided by Washington University Libraries on the Danforth Campus, Research Infrastructure Services within WashU IT, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, and others.
