Clarivate Analytics recently released the 2021 edition of Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This year’s edition includes more than 20,000 journals from 113 countries across five continents and 254 research categories in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
The Web of Science database from Clarivate Analytics has an updated interface and new tools such as the Author Impact Beamplot which shows the citation performance of an author’s entire publication list in a single view. Web of Science is now updated daily (instead of five days a week), authors can also submit corrections for Author Records, and Citation Alerts can be created to track when a publication is cited by future publications
The Peer Review Taxonomy will be formalized as an ANSI/NISO standard. The taxonomy was developed by a working group of publishers and STM, the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers. The taxonomy provides standardized terms to describe peer review practices. It provides inclusive language for peer review, for example using the term double anonymized to describe a review process where the author is masked to the reviewer and the reviewer is masked to the author. The current version of the taxonomy (version 2.0) is being piloted by several publishers.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of ORCID’s Trust Program and ORCID is celebrating this milestone with a series of blog posts in the Five Years of the ORCID Trust Program series. These blog posts highlight ORCID’s commitment to balance priorities of researcher control and data quality within profiles, while adhering to its longstanding values of openness, trust, and inclusivity. As ORCID supports user generated content, concerns surrounding the creation of fake or deceptive content are relevant to maintaining ORCID’s trustworthiness.
To further acquaint users with the ORCID Trust Program, ORCID recently introduced the concept of “trust markers” in an ORCID record so that users can judge the veracity and trustworthiness of information in ORCID records themselves. As the series continues, ORCID outlines its trust markers and informs users on how to get the most out of their ORCID records.
